WHAT COULD I BE WHEN I GROW UP?
Welcome to 1001Jobs
We believe that every child should feel open to a wide range of career choices regardless of their gender, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity and socio economic background.
What is 1001Jobs?
#1001jobs is a campaign that aims to give primary school children increased exposure to the wide world of work. Together we can…
Build the foundations for a future that is rich with a diverse and vibrant workforce.
Inspire and empower the school children of this Country.
Break down socio-economic barriers, smash through stereotypes, and
overcome stigma attached to what a child believes they can and can’t be when they grow up.

Think about where 7-11 year olds get their information on the world of work: their parents, friends’ parents, television or online. But they aren’t being exposed to the full range of existing jobs, or finding out about the jobs of the future. That’s where you come in!
Children can’t be what they can’t see and you can help children to be open to a wide range of jobs beyond what they already know what exists.
The facts that fed our mission…
1. “Gender stereotypes are defined between 5 and 7 years of age”- ‘Inspiring The Future – Redraw the Balance’
2. According to the OECD PISA Report, there are only “minimal changes” in attitude towards career options between the ages of 7 and 17.
3. “A survey of 600 human resources by Wiley Education Services and Future Workplaces shows that 64% (nearly two-thirds) see a skills gap in their companies”
#1001jobs is the first step in creating a tool for primary schools that will give children access to engaging and entertaining videos of real people doing real jobs.
Our aim is to road test the videos on 101 primary schools and create a report that will help us understand what works when it comes to exposing children to the wider world of work.
What we are looking for:
Show us your job, what you do, how you do it, what you love about your job and what the most interesting or enjoyable aspect of the job is.
Send us a 90 second video!

REAL PEOPLE, REAL VIDEOS, REAL JOBS
I want to do a video!
That’s great! Please read the guidelines below for some top tips on how to create the best video possible.
one
introduction
3 things – tell us your name, your job title and an example of something you do in your job. ‘hi my name is Anna, I’m a casting producer, I get to travel loads, meet really cool and interesting people and the best thing about my job is that no two days are ever the same!’
two
Show us your work environment
Turn the camera onto your studio, office, lab, garden, kitchen – wherever you work, film it and talk us through it.
three
describe your job visually
Describe your job visually – think of the most fun visual way to describe your job. If you are something like a computer scientist – show us a robot! If you have a practical job like a carpenter – show us your coolest tools. If you design stuff show us how and what you design. If you work from home – show us your home office! If you are a transport logistics manager – show us the map of all places you have transport solutions. If you’re a dancer – show us your rehearsals or a choreographed piece of dance! You get the idea!
four
What's the best thing about your job?
Keep it anecdotal, not too many facts or details. What do you get from it? Do you love being organised? Is it creativity that you love? Is it solving a problem?
five
Visuals, Visuals, Visuals
If you find yourself struggling to describe what you do simply don’t worry! Just show us something cool related to your work.
six
How to film
ALWAYS Film in LANDSCAPE!!!
Try and keep your video short – around 90s is perfect, 2 minutes max!!
Get inspired
Example videos
Here is where we will place some videos for you to use as inspiration. Remember, they really don’t need to be perfect!
Let’s get going

FAQs
Who will see my Video?
The video will be seen by 101 Primary schools around the country. The site will be secure and only accessible by a password issued.
What will you do with my video after the pilot scheme?
Once the test period has closed and we have attained all the data to create the report we will use the videos for research and development of the See it Be it app. But the videos will never be placed freely into the public domain without gaining prior permission.
What if I decide I don’t want my video to be used?
Just let us know and we will remove it from our folder and delete it permanently.
I have more than one job. Can I do more than one video?
Yes! The more the merrier!
Will you definitely be using my Video?
Not necessarily. We want to give the children a broad range of jobs so if we have too many of one type of job we might not use all of them.
